More Than Charity Economic Impact Dashboard
Explore nonprofit data by county and Local Workforce Area
About the Dashboard Content
Kentucky is divided into 10 Local Workforce Areas (LWAs), regional workforce planning areas required under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The LWAs are based on labor market analysis, and local workforce boards use them to coordinate workforce training, employment services, and economic development strategies.

501(c) Tax-Exempt Nonprofits:Â All organizations recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c), including charitable nonprofits, social welfare organizations, business leagues, labor unions, and other nonprofit types.
501(c)(3) Charitable Nonprofits:Â A subset of 501(c) organizations dedicated to charitable, educational, religious, or similar public purposes. Donations are generally tax-deductible. These organizations may advocate on policy issues and engage in limited lobbying, but they cannot support or oppose candidates or participate in partisan political campaigns.
501(c)(3) Charitable Nonprofits with Paid Employees:Â Charitable nonprofits that report having paid staff (rather than operating entirely with volunteers). This group represents the portion of charities that function as employers and contribute to the nonprofit workforce.
In the top Wage and Economic Impact Section:
- The PURPLE bar shows total 501(c) tax-exempt organizations.
- The GREEN sections use data from total 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits filing IRS Forms 990 and 990-EZ.
- The BLUE sections use data from total 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit locations with paid employees.
The bottom two pie charts use data from total 501(c) tax-exempt organizations.
See the list of data sources at the bottom of the dashboard for more information, including the years covered by each dataset.

For the best viewing experience on desktop, maximize your browser window. Smaller window sizes may cause some dashboard elements to appear compressed.
