About the LouNC

The Louisville Nonprofit Coalition (LouNC) is a local alliance of KNN members committed to a stronger, more unified nonprofit public policy voice in the Louisville Metro community.

Nonprofits are vital government and community partners. Policies and decisions on the local level are directly and indirectly connected with state and federal decisions. It’s time to ensure the Louisville nonprofit voices have a seat at the local decision-making table. With a stronger, more unified voice, we can more effectively educate and engage public officials and leaders for strategic investments and collaboration that ensure a Louisville where everyone thrives. The expertise of our members who work to meet the needs of Louisvillians are key voices.

What does the work of LouNC look like?

In-person meetings are held monthly and hosted by LouNC members around Louisville.
Meetings include strategy setting around local, state, and federal policy engagement; education and discussion of key issues impacting members, the nonprofit sector, and the Louisville community; visits with invited guests informing the Coalition’s work; and an opportunity to learn from, network, and collaborate with other nonprofit members.
The LouNC successfully engages its members with policy makers, including Congressman Morgan McGarvey, state legislators representing Louisville, and Louisville Metro Council and the Mayor’s administration.
The LouNC ensures that the nonprofit sector voice is heard via meetings with public officials and in public meetings.

As a member of the LouNC, your nonprofit will:

be kept up to date on the public policy issues impacting your organization and the nonprofit sector at the local, state, and federal level.
receive key insight into specific partnerships and funding opportunities.
stand with other nonprofits to advocate for a more collaborative and effective partnership with government to better serve the Louisville community.
benefit from the opportunity to connect regularly with nonprofit colleagues working to build a thriving nonprofit sector.

Louisville Nonprofit Coalition hosts: Meet the Candidates
Wednesday, October 7, 5-8pm ET
in Louisville

Join the Louisville Nonprofit Coalition for a meet and greet with your candidates for Metro Council. Nonprofits serve every Metro Council district and this is an opportunity to connect, learn, and move Louisville forward together! Nonprofits are significant employers and service providers, contributing to our economy and ensuring that the city can most effectively meet its goals and constituent needs. Candidates are invited to speak to nonprofit sector priorities, including Metro Government partnerships and engagement with local nonprofits. Following, candidates will have a designated table for an opportunity to connect 1-1 with attendees serving or living in their districts. Join us to hear from our future Council Members!

Building a Stronger Behavioral Health Network Together – Interest Meeting
Tuesday, October 13, 9-10am ET
in Louisville

The Louisville Nonprofit Coalition, an alliance of Kentucky Nonprofit Network members, is partnering with the Louisville Metro Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) to explore the creation of an OBH Behavioral Health Nonprofit Workgroup. This interest meeting is an opportunity for nonprofit partners to share feedback, learn more about OBH priorities, and discuss how organizations can work together to strengthen coordination, identify service gaps, improve referral pathways, and elevate community voices in shaping Louisville’s behavioral health system. Nonprofits of all sizes and missions are encouraged to attend, especially organizations whose work intersects with behavioral health, including housing, education, employment, youth and family services, violence prevention, recovery, advocacy, and direct care.

Report: Nonprofits and Louisville Metro Government Partnership Opportunities: Insight from the Nonprofit Community (released March 2025)

In late 2024, the Louisville Nonprofit Coalition gathered feedback from the community’s charitable nonprofit leaders about their experiences and vision for partnering with Louisville Metro Government, specifically on grants and contracts to address community needs. We developed this report to document and share the valuable feedback from participating nonprofit leaders and to guide future efforts to enhance government and nonprofit partnerships.
