<div style="font-size: 11.666666030883789px;">Judy Owens has served as Appalachian Director of the Steele-Reese Foundation since 2007. She is a lawyer, writer and policy expert on matters that pertain to rural communities. Prior to coming to Steele-Reese, Judy was director of the UK Center for Rural Health and in previous years was in private legal practice. Prior to attending law school Judy was a journalist, and wrote for the Lexington Herald-Leader and the Louisville Courier-Journal.</div> <div style="font-size: 11.666666030883789px;"> </div> <div style="font-size: 11.666666030883789px;">Judy grew up in Bell County, Kentucky and worked for more than 25 years in Appalachian communities including Hyden and Hazard. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Murray State University and a law degree from the UK College of Law, where she served as president of a national championship Moot Court team and was a law journal editor.</div>
